Announcing the dedication of our premises and the unveiling of a new installation by Edmund de Waal
We are very pleased to announce that the Bishop of London will dedicate our newly enhanced premises on the afternoon of 25 November 2023. This is an important moment for us at St Mary’s, seeing the completion of several years of planning, fundraising and building.
We are therefore especially delighted that this dedication day will be marked by the unveiling of a new installation by Edmund de Waal. The artwork is placed in the corridor linking the Church with the new Russell Room, the focal point of our new community space. The artist describes the installation as a series of white glazed vitrines whose positioning creates ‘a sort of aura; as you move along the corridor the light changes. A vitrine is at heart just a way of keeping something safe – hence keeping someone safe’. He has called it ‘One Equal Light’ echoing John Donne’s beautiful sermon (CXLVI).
We are thankful to him for this beautiful piece, symbolising our hopes for the centre, and to all who have helped us reach this significant stage in the Pineapple Project and the history of St Mary’s.
